Critical Theory Workshop 2015

GPPC member institution, Villanova University, co-sponsors:

The Critical Theory Workshop /
Atelier de Théorie Critique

Theme 2015: Revolutions Past, Present, Future

1-31 July 2015
Sorbonne
1 rue Victor Cousin
Paris, France

The Critical Theory Workshop or Atelier de Théorie Critique is a research program that takes place every July in Paris. The primary objective of the Workshop is to provide an international forum for interdisciplinary and comparative research in critical theory, broadly construed. Students are exposed to the work of contemporary thinkers and engage with current debates in the Francophone world.

The Workshop, which takes place at the Sorbonne in central Paris, is comprised of three components: i) a research forum on a specific topic in which “recherches en cours” are presented and discussed ii) a series of public rencontres, or debates and discussions with prominent or emerging intellectuals iii) working groups in which each participant workshops a specific research project in consultation with other participants. The last two components — unlike the research forum — are not organized around a specific yearly theme.

For more information and how to apply see: http://criticaltheoryworkshop.com/.

Sanford Budick Speaking at Swarthmore

Swarthmore College Departments of Philosophy and English Literature, with the Program in Interpretation Theory, present:

Kant and the Miltonic Mind

Wednesday, November 5, 2014
4:30pm
Parpazian 324
Swarthmore College
500 College Avenue
Swarthmore, PA 19081

Speaker: Sanford Budick
Professor Emeritus
The Hebrew University of Jerusalem
At key moments Paradise Lost represents a freely constructed condition of mind in which a subjective whole of experience is regained via gender reciprocity and the sublime. In its turn, such wholeness of experience makes possible acts of choosing for the good of being as a whole. And in Kant's capacity as theorist of experience he repeatedly focused on the dozen verses of Paradise Lost that are crowned by "Male and Femal Light" (VIII.140-152).
